Executive Team

Pascal Arpin

President
I have been a member at Glendale for 10 years and on the executive for 8 of those. My love of the game goes back to the epic Wimbledon matchups between Boris Becker and Stefan Edberg. Tennis to me is one of the most unifying sports one can choose. It is good for all ages and is fosters a great social atmosphere.

Barrie Cox

Vice President
Hey everyone ! I started playing the sport of a lifetime when I was 11 and 12 in Montreal.  Restarted at Glendale approx 1977 in my early twenties and have played ever since !

*Playing with my Prince Woodie racquet in the early years at Glendale !

Anzalene Rayman

Membership Director
Having started tennis later in life, it has been a pleasure to be a member of GTC for the last 15 years.  I started out as a beginner on Alex’s Tuesday Night House League and from there have grown with the club, playing many leagues within GTC.  I’ve held several positions over the past few years including Tournament Director and Secretary.  My love for tennis continues to grow and I look forward to continuing to play for many years to come.

Peter Miles

Junior’s Director
I’ve only been playing tennis for 45 years but it’s still just as enjoyable as when I was younger.  I think it’s the best sport in the world as it’s one of the few where you can play with your 60 yr old mother and also with your 5 yr old kids.  I’ve been volunteering for tennis clubs for over 25 years in roles as Junior Director, Tournament Director and Team Captain.  I’ve been Junior Director and A Team Captain at Glendale for past 7 years.  It’s my pleasure to give back to a sport that has given me so much over the years!

Brian Hurd

Club Professional
With over 20 years of playing experience, including 15 years as a certified Tennis Pro, Brian brings a wealth of knowledge and enthusiasm to the sport. He is a Certified Coach Club Level II, and has a team of dynamic, energetic instructors.  Brian’s passionate and innovative teaching methods are designed to meet the needs of all players at all levels of play.

Mark Vanrooy

Maintenance Director
Having lived in Pickering since 1985, I’d often thought about joining Glendale Tennis Club, to improve a sport I’d played recreationally since my teens. In fact my first date with a cute young lady I met at Ontario Place was a game of tennis. We married and continued recreational tennis until the kids arrived. We finally decided to get more serious about the game in 2015 and took some lessons with Brian at GTC. I’ve always been a Mr Fix It and so stepped up as Maintenance Director a year later. GTC has always been a great place with a fun membership who share a passion for tennis. Sometimes I wish I’d joined sooner, but no regrets, just happy to help out, meet good people of all ages, and enjoy a challenging and fun sport.

Nancy Vanrooy

Secretary and Social Director
A longtime married resident of Pickering; mother of three daughters and a recently retired professional.

In 2015, while looking to participate in a new “to me” sport, I joined the Glendale tennis club for lessons with Head Pro Brian Hurd. After an initial assessment by Brian, who stated, “ I can see all of your previous sports were linear in nature”, which was true, (running; cycling; swimming and skiing), I learned over time to turn and bend and hit a tennis ball with enthusiasm.

It’s never too late to find a new passion sport and along with it, enjoy meeting new friends; competing and volunteering on the executive to help maintain a well run fun-filled tennis experience for all ages!
